Biological Application and shape of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS)
lauryl sodium sulfate
English name: Sodium dodecyl sulfate; SDS
Alias: sodium lauryl sulfate
Properties: White or white flake crystal or powder. There is a slight smell of fat. Have a sense of smoothness. It can decompose in wet air. 1g is dissolved in 10mL water to form emulsion, the surface tension of aqueous solution is small, it is neutral reaction, and it can emulsify fat. Slightly soluble in ethanol, almost insoluble in chloroform, ether and light oil.
Biological applicationshttp://www.hnhbsj.com:
The main results are as follows: (1) SDS is an anionic surfactants commonly used in the electrophoresis separation of proteins and lipids. When it is mixed with protein and the mass ratio reaches 1.4: 1, SDS can destroy the non-covalent bonds between protein molecules and other substance molecules to change the conformational structure of protein and then make the protein denatured and dissociated into a single subunit. Thus, the natural charge difference between various protein molecules is reduced or eliminated. 10% SDS is often used as storage solution for electrophoresis.
(2) SDS can rapidly destroy the tissue structure and inhibit the activities of RNase and deoxyribonucleosidase (DNase), so SDS is also the key component of nucleic acid purification reagent. 10% or 20% SDS storage solution is usually used, and the working concentration of SDS is 0.1 ≤ 0.5%.
Storage conditions: sealed, cool and dry.
Toxicity: low toxicity, the 50% lethal dose of rats was 1288 mg ·kg ·L ~ (- 1) ·kg ~ (- 1). It is irritating.
The material comes from the network.
